The National Center for Earth and Environmental Nanotechnology (NanoEarth) hosted 7 undergraduate students from Virginia Tech’s (VT) NanoCareers Course (NANO 2814). The course, led by NanoEarth’s Deputy Director Marc Michel, Ph.D., explores career opportunities in nanoscience and nanomedicine.

Students first toured the Nanotechnology Characterization and Fabrication Laboratory (NCFL). Then, NanoEarth’s instrument specialist, Charis Horn, Ph.D., discussed her academic and professional background. She walked the students through what research can be done using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Lastly, the NCFL Focused Ion Beam (FIB) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) Laboratory Manager, Jarret Wright, discussed how to use the FIB and SEM in projects, along with his career background. The tour and conversations helped students learn about nanotechnology opportunities and network with scientists.
